Real Camera is black? - (Settings or Real Lighting do not fix it)

Hello,

I'm reaching out regarding the Real Camera Asset. I've followed the setup process for the camera and lighting as described in both the tutorials.

-I've placed the Real Camera body and lens settings.

-Configured the camera setup as instructed.

-Adjusted the lighting to be physically based, as outlined in the tutorial.

However, once everything is set up, the camera viewport remains completely black. This happens consistently, even after going through the setup steps.

I've tested this on two different computers and encountered the same result each time. Could you confirm if there are any specific prerequisites or settings (Lumen, other rendering options) that I need to enable for the asset to work properly?

I'll provide a screenshot as reference. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey Elron, welcome aboard, I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems!

The camera being black usually means there is to little light in the scene. To make sure we get something other than black let’s try this setup for a moment:

  • Directional Light set to 120.000 lux
  • use a Photography Camera High-end (it has the widest exposure range)
  • make sure a camera body and lens are actually assigned (you clearly did that, just for completion sake)
  • make sure that the camera is in a position to actually receive the light, so it is not inside an object or below the ground
  • make sure that in you Cinematographer Camera->Details->Configure Shot->Auto Exposure mode is set to Full Automatic
  • turn off any post-process volumes in your scene
  • make sure that in your viewport -> Perspective->Exposure ->Game Settings is toggled on
  • if still nothing is showing please go to the Cinematographer Camera->Details->Configure Shot->Advanced->ND Filter and test some negative values, for example -16

These are all points that could potentially lead to a black image, I hope one of these gives you a working image and leads you to the problem!

For context I'm using Unreal Engine 5.4
