Real Camera/UDS/Exposure Level

Using Ultra Dynamic Sky, Post Process Volume, and Real Camera with High Quality Cinematic body and lens.

When I  adjust exposure level, nothing in camera view shows.

Only way to adjust lighting is to alter sunlight in UDS.

I would assume 1) I can see updates to exposure from your camera w/o tweaking UDS sun.

Please advise. I'm using Lite...it's available for that version?

Thx

Hey Brett, thank you for getting in contact and welcome aboard!

Just to make sure thats not the problem, please make sure that in your viewport Lit -> Exposure -> Game Settings is enabled. I attached a screenshot to show the setting. This makes sure the camera gets the actual exposure of the scene and is not overwritten.

If that doesn’t help, make sure your scene uses physically correct light. I can not say for certain that Ultra Dynamic Sky actually uses the correct Lux values. Check this table to make sure. If it’s not easily possible you should ask them how to use Ultra Dynamic Sky with physically correct light values.

As a last resort you can cheat the physically correctness by entering a negative ND Filter Value in your Real Camera under Details -> Configure Shot -> Advanced -> ND Filter. With this setting you can make any exposure visible but keep in mind this defeating the physically correctness and thus leads to less photorealistic results.

I hope this information helps!

Thanks. I'm using an OPENIO setup, would that interfere? I'm kinda wanting to keep that in place as that workflow is important to me.

The biggest obstacle is increasing the brightness, but am able to adjust with tweaking brightness of sun in UDS.

Thanks,

Brett

Hey,

no the OPENIO/OCIO workflow does not interfere at all. But depending on the chosen profiles it can result in a considerably darker image.

So changing the Auto Exposure Compensation from +3 to -3 does not change the brightness of the image? Then your are probably out of range for the camera which means that the auto exposure/ the camera is already at its maximum settings because the light is too bright or more likely to dark.

Have you tried using a negative ND filter value as described above? That can cheat you back into range and the camera then works again as expected, even with too little light. Try a value like -5 or -8.

I hope this information helps you getting your desired results!

Thanks! So, this basically goes back to setting the sunlight value much higher in UDS. I prefer to get as realistic as possible. Once this was increased to 81, Auto Exposure seems back in play.

Thanks for your assistance!

Oh, it looks like you are not using physically correct light values. Please check this cheat sheet for the correct values. This tutorial video may also help you set up your scene even though you are using Ultra Dynamic Sky.
